Drill chuck adapter

Everyone who likes DIY (Do It Yourself) has at some point had the need to drill a hole in a wall or in a material such as wood. For this we had to buy or borrow a drill from our neighbour so that we could drill the holes in the wall to hang the picture we had been waiting for so long. The problem can come when it comes to putting the drill bit that we had prepared and that is the size we are interested in, in the drill. Drill bits are usually of different sizes depending on the hole to be drilled and the mouth of the drill has a fixed size. To make this adaptation we will have to use a drill chuck.

What is a drill chuck:

The drill chuck is a cone-shaped element that we adapt to the mouth of the drill. Thanks to this tool, we can use drill bits of different sizes without any problem. Depending on the type of drill bit and chuck, the gripping system will be different:

SDS plus chuck:

SDS Plus drill chucks are a 3-jaw tool with a shank. This type of chuck can be used with any type of drill bit as it adapts to each of them.

SDS drill chuck:

SDS chucks (Stecken, Drehen and Sichern, meaning ‘insert’, ‘turn and secure’) or also called Special Direct System, are chucks designed by manufacturers for the use of their drill bits in electric drills. The advantage of these chucks is that the grip on the drill bit is better compared to SDS plus chucks as they are specifically designed for one point and the precision of the work is higher. It is clear that the cost of such chucks is higher and that is why they are used in a professional environment.

What is a chuck adapter for?

In all this connection between the drill chuck and the drill we would be missing an element which is the drill chuck adapter. The function of the adapter is to connect the drill chuck to the drill.

In the following guide we will explain what impact driver bits are, the benefits they have over a normal bit and the different types of bits.

Impact bits. What are they?

These bits are special bits designed for use in electric impact drivers and are characterised by absorbing the torque bits produced by impact drivers. In most cases, the bits are misused because we use the ‘normal’ bits in impact drivers and as they do not absorb the torque bits they tend to break faster. At a glance, we can easily identify an impact driver bit by its slightly narrower neck. This neck absorbs the torque, prolonging the life of these bits.

The sharp end:

Bicycle tools | What tools do I need to repair a bicycle?

Bicycles are one of the best-selling sports equipment and that is why in most homes we can find one per person who lives on it. That is why more than one person will have had to make certain repairs on them, such as repairing a flat tyre or greasing the chain in one of the simplest cases. If you are one of those people who have had to do maintenance on your bicycle, you will have noticed that having the specific tool to carry out each task can save you a lot of time. If you are thinking of preparing a kit to fix your bike, we don’t want you to forget a single one and below is a list of all the tools you will need when it comes to repairing your bike:

Air pump

The air pump is one of the elements that we are going to use the most in the maintenance of our bicycles. They will help us to have the right pressure in our tyres in case they are low or when we have to repair a puncture. Within the air pumps we can find all kinds of sizes, the ideal is to have one with a pressure gauge for routine checks and a portable air pump to carry with us and repair the wheel in case of a puncture.

Hexagonal spanners (Allen)

Hex keys are another key tool that we must have if we want to fix any bike. With hex keys we can loosen the screws of our bicycle and for example adjust the saddle to our height. TX keys

PH and flat screwdrivers

PH and flat screwdrivers are other items that we must have in our toolbox if we want to repair a bicycle. It must be said that they are not the most commonly used tools, but they will come in handy for making certain necessary adjustments. At Bianditz we have a range of PH1, PH2 and PH3 screwdrivers and flat screwdrivers ranging in size from 3×0.5 to 8×1.2.

Fixed spanners or socket spanners

Fixed spanners or socket spanners are another important tool to carry in our bicycle repair toolbox. It is true that if we have a competition bike we probably don’t need this type of spanner as most of the tightening is done with quick tightening knobs, but in the case of more ‘street’ bikes we will need a set of fixed spanners to loosen the wheels in case of a puncture or the bottom bracket axle.

Pliers

Pliers may not be the most commonly used tool when it comes to repairing a bike, but they may come in handy more than once to adjust brake or derailleur cables and get a good set-up. That’s why we recommend that, even if you don’t carry them with you, you should always have a pair of pliers in your toolbox.

Deck remover

With the subject of tyres you can get into a long debate about whether to use tubeless tyres ‘tube less’ or not, but in case your bike has a tube you will probably have a puncture one day and you will have to change it. To do this you will need a tool that goes between the tyre and the rim and by levering it out you can ‘easily’ remove the tyre and repair the tube. Without a doubt, a tyre changer is a tool to always carry with you to be able to repair a puncture at any time.

Chain cutter

The chain cutter serves as its name suggests to cut the chain in case it needs to be changed. It is a tool that we will probably not use regularly, but if we ride a lot, we may need to replace the chain at some point and resort to it.

Bike / chain cleaning kit

For the whole system of the bike to work properly it is important to clean it regularly or even every time we use the bike, especially if you are a mountain biker. To do this we will check and clean the brakes, joints or bearings that we may have on the bike, grease the chain, check that the suspension is clean and well adjusted… a complete cleaning of all the mechanical elements.

Cassette spanner and extractor

The cassette spanner is a tool that will come in handy in case we want to remove the cassette and replace it with a new one. Depending on the manufacturer of the bike and the components we will need one type of spanner or another. This type of tool is not something we use every day.

Bottom bracket spanner and puller

The bottom bracket spanner, like the cassette spanner, will be used to remove the bottom bracket and replace it with a new one or to clean the bottom bracket spindle. So it will be a tool that we do not use regularly but if you want to have a complete bike repair kit, it will be interesting to have one in your bag.

Torque screwdriver

Multi-tool kits are very interesting to carry with you when you go out for a ride with your bike. Thanks to them we can repair small problems that may arise on our bicycles. In case of a major breakdown, the best thing to do is to stop and visit our workshop to assess the problem.

Rim spanners

The rim spanner will come in handy in those cases where the rim has been damaged by a blow and has become slightly bent. With the rim spanner we will adjust the tension one by one and straighten the rim again. It’s a task we won’t do often, but if you want to have a complete bike repair kit, it’s a tool you definitely have to have. Within the world of screwdriver bits we always resort to certain bit standards, but there are companies and sectors that need screwdriver bits with very specific measurements to do their job. This is the case of the 5/16 bits we have in this post. An international client involved in the installation of sports venues needed a specific screwdriver bit with a 5/16’ hex head (very common in the USA, but not so much in Europe) and a length of 120mm, in order to be able to reach spaces that are some distance away. After making the initial quotation and assessing the work, we launched production in order to respond to the customer’s deadline. Now we can say that thanks to the 5/16 spikes that we have manufactured in Bianditz many people are enjoying different sports facilities.

Threaded tip TX15x45 M5

The use of threaded bits is becoming more and more common in industry as they can be easily attached to automatic screwdriving machines used in production plants in the manufacture of automobiles, refrigerators and other components. In this type of screwdriver bits, the ability to manufacture to size is very important as sometimes standard sizes are not suitable for machines.

Low flat screwdriver bits Tx15x165 and 175

As a manufacturer of screwdriver bits, we were approached by a printed circuit board manufacturing company with a very specific requirement. They needed two types of screwdriver bits with very special technical specifications. One of the bits had to be 165mm long and have a diameter of less than Ø3.68mm, while the 175mm bit could not exceed Ø3.75mm. This is a very important internal challenge because as a screwdriver tip with a small diameter, it is a very manual manufacturing process and the tip can be bent in the hardening process. This is why it is important to check and straighten each of the tips manufactured one by one. In the end, the manufacturing process has been a success, despite some challenges. Right now, thanks to the tips we have manufactured, there is a printed circuit board factory that is not standing still and produces parts with our products.

Manufacture of screwdriver bits TX27x220 made to measure

Among the services we offer at Bianditz, one of them is the manufacture of made-to-measure screwdriver bits. In the case of this post, a German customer asked us for a series of TX27x220 screwdriver bits with an E6.35 clamping, a smaller diameter than normal, as they had to access a reduced space and a length of 220mm to be able to reach the head of the screw. After drawing up the plans and purchasing the materials, the entire production team is put into action. Once the product is manufactured, a specific marking is made according to the customer’s needs. A few weeks later, the customer has tailor-made screwdriver bits with which he can service thousands of chainsaws.

Bianditz at Eisenwarenmesse Cologne

From 25th to 28th September Bianditz was present at the Eisenwarenmesse fair held in the German city of Cologne, together with a number of companies from the Basque Country. The fair was attended by more than 1,400 exhibitors from over 50 countries around the world.

During the fair, Bianditz presented the novelties of the 2022 catalogue and talked about the production capacity that Bianditz has when manufacturing screwdriver bits, hand tools and impact tools made to measure for different customers. Thanks to the novelties and the production capacity of Bianditz, our stand was the centre of attention of many visitors from different countries of the world, looking for a high quality tool.
