Industrial Dies: What are they and how are they made at Bianditz?

What are industrial dies and how are they manufactured at Bianditz?

At Bianditz Molds & Cutting Dies, we are specialists in the manufacture of industrial molds and high quality cutting and bending dies for roll forming lines, among other products. In this article, we are going to explain what cutting and bending dies are, their function within industrial processes and how we manufacture them in our facilities.

What is Die Cutting?

Die-cutting is an essential manufacturing process in industry that allows materials to be shaped by cutting, punching and/or bending. This technique is used to obtain products with specific shapes and dimensions from sheets of materials such as metals. In simple terms, a die functions as a cutting or forming tool that adapts to the desired shape, allowing precise cutting and bending without affecting the integrity of the material.

What are Cutting and Bending Dies?

At Bianditz, we specialise in the manufacture of combined cutting and bending dies. These dies allow the cutting and bending of material for the creation of industrial parts. Cutting and bending dies are widely used in the manufacture of metal components, automotive parts, machinery structures, among others.

How are Bianditz Cutting and Bending Dies Manufactured?

The manufacturing process of cutting and bending dies for roll forming lines at Bianditz follows a series of precise steps to guarantee the quality and performance of the dies.

  1. Design phase: The process begins with the design of the die to be manufactured, which will be adjusted to the customer’s specifications and the needs of the final product. With the design, a 3D model of the die is created, which allows an exhaustive study to be carried out so that once everything is correct, the programming can be done.
  2. Manufacturing stage: The sheets are fed into a press, where punching and deformation processes are carried out to achieve the desired shape. At this stage, the material is punched and the first modifications are made to shape the dies. Punching allows precise holes to be made, while deformation defines the final shape of the product.
  3. Adjustment and assembly: Finally, the mold is checked and after making sure that everything is OK, the die is assembled.

Once the customer receives the die, the process continues as follows: After punching, the deformed sheets are passed through a roll former. This process is carried out using rollers which can have different shapes, depending on the final product to be obtained. The dies manufactured by Bianditz are designed to be integrated before and after the roll former, allowing total control over the shape and accuracy of the roll forming.

Once the material has been profiled, final cutting and any additional adjustments required to perfect the parts are made. In this step, the cutting and bending dies play a key role, as they provide perfectly dimensioned parts with the final details ready to be assembled or processed in later stages.

Types of Dies that we manufacture in Bianditz

At Bianditz, we specialise in three main types of dies, each with specific applications according to the needs of our customers:

  • Simple dies: These are dies that perform a single operation, either cutting, punching or folding.
  • Compound Dies: Integrate several operations within a single tool, such as cutting and bending, allowing for greater efficiency in the manufacturing process.
  • Progressive Dies: These dies perform several operations in a progressive sequence, allowing a higher level of automation and optimisation of the production process.
