Precision turning: The key to manufacturing precision parts
At Bianditz Group, within the “Precision Turning” section, we specialize in the manufacturing of small parts through precision turning process. This method is essential for various sectors that require small, high-precision parts, such as locks, the medical sector, the automotive industry, and watchmaking. In this article, we will explain what bar turning is, its benefits, and the various parts that can be manufactured with this technique.
¿What is precision turning?
Precision turning is a machining process performed on automatic lathes, where high-precision parts are manufactured from bars of material. These machines allow the production of components with complex geometries and very tight tolerances, which is essential for applications where precision is crucial.
Benefits of Precision Turning
High Precision:
Precision turning allows the manufacture of parts with very tight tolerances, which is essential for components that require accuracy in their dimensions and finish.
Versatility:
It is a process adaptable to a wide range of materials such as steel, aluminum, brass and plastics. This allows the production of parts for multiple industries.
Production Efficiency:
Precision turning lathes are capable of operating continuously and with little human intervention, reducing production costs and increasing efficiency.
Customization Capability:
The process allows for the production of customized parts in small and large series, which is ideal for companies that require specific components according to their needs.
Waste Reduction:
Being a highly controlled process, bar turning minimises material waste, contributing to more sustainable and economical production.
Parts that can be manufactured with bar turning
Bar turning is ideal for the manufacture of a wide variety of parts that require high precision and durability. In Bianditz we have turning capacity for diameters ranging from 3 to 25mm and lengths up to 300mm. Some of the parts that can be manufactured include:
· Lock Components: Small, complex parts that are critical to the safe and efficient operation of locks.
· Medical Parts: Components for medical devices that require a high degree of precision and biocompatibility.
· Automotive Parts: Components that are part of critical automotive systems, such as sensors, connectors and engine parts.
· Watch Parts: Tiny, precise elements that are essential to the proper functioning of watches, from gears to screws.
How is precision turning performed? Process explained step by step:
1. Plan design:
It all starts with the careful design of drawings to ensure that each part meets the specific requirements of our customers.
2. Raw material storage:
We use selected, quality materials, with careful storage to maintain their integrity prior to the production process.
3. Machine manufacturing:
To carry out precision turning we have advanced machinery for the production of high precision parts, capable of extremely low tolerances and high levels of detail. In particular our precision machining uses advanced Japanese Swiss type sliding head turning centres with up to 8-axis control.
This type of machine allows us to shape a bar of material using chip removal.
The raw material is deposited on the moving head, which will be in charge of turning the piece at high speed while another piece will be in charge of turning it or giving it the previously established shape.
In this way, the machine automatically receives bars of material as it turns the parts so that they can be mass-produced without stopping.
4. Measuring equipment:
The parts verification machine allows each part to go through an exhaustive quality control either optical or by 3D digital palpation so that the result meets rigorous standards of accuracy and ensure perfection in each component.
In this video we show the step by step of this process. From the raw material to the final product, our dedication to precision and quality is what sets us apart.
Conclusion
Precision turning is a key process for the manufacture of high precision parts used in various industries. At our company, we are committed to quality and precision, using advanced lathes to meet the specific needs of each customer.
