Torx wrenches | Everything you should know about them
What are Torx wrenches
The Torx screwdriver tip or also known as TX is the patent of a 6-pointed star-shaped screw head. It can be said that it is one of the “newest” screw heads since it was developed in 1967 by Camcar Textron.
Torx wrenches stand out for being more resistant than PH and thanks to its shape it allows us to give higher tightening torques than other types of references.
Sectors where TX wrenches are used
TX wrenches are very frequently used in sectors such as automotive, general industry or electronic devices, for example. The reason is that this type of wrench resists the cam-out effect, which occurs when the screwdriver has a certain torque and slips on the screw. This effect is generally produced in the PH tips in order to avoid over-tightening the screw. However, over the years in the industrial sector, other types of industrial screwdrivers have been produced, such as torque screwdrivers, and in this way we can control the tightening torque from the tool, without the tip suffering from the aforementioned effect.
Advantages of Torx wrenches
As we have already mentioned in the previous point, one of the great advantages of TX wrenches, which are becoming more and more popular in the industry and in more and more sectors, is that with them we can achieve higher tightening torques than with other wrenches, with a tip durability up to 10 times greater than with other wrenches.
Types of Torx wrenches
In the market we can find a great variety of formats of use for TX wrenches depending on the use and sector in which we are going to use them. The most common are the following:
TX Bits:
TX bits are an interesting option if we want to screw many TX head screws in a row with an impact driver or an electro-portable tool. TX screwdriver bits are one of the most used options in different sectors as they give us the flexibility to attach the bit to our tool.
Regarding Torx screwdriver bits, in the Bianditz catalog we can find a wide range of bit sizes ranging from T6 to T60 in 5/16” bits for example.
Angled
Angled TX wrenches are a very common option due to the ease of finding a complete set of Torx wrenches. They are distinguished from other wrenches by their characteristic L-shaped screwdriver and obviously because of their shape they are a hand-held tool, not compatible with electronic devices.
The sizes of Torx wrenches that can be found in the Bianditz catalog, for example, range from T6 to T60.
T-handle
TX T-handle wrenches are a very good option for all those uses where a higher torque is required. Thanks to its handle, we will have control of the tool together with an ergonomic handle and we will be able to work with total comfort.
Within the Bianditz catalogue you can find different sizes of TX T-handle screwdrivers, ranging from TX10 to TX40, all of them with the inviolable hole in the middle.
TX screwdrivers
TX screwdrivers feature a handle that goes in the direction of the rod. It is a tool that compared to the T-handle screwdrivers we can make a slightly lower torque, but we can work in spaces where we have a smaller working field.
In the TX Bianditz range of screwdrivers we can find 2 types of models, the normal ones and the safety ones. In the case of the normal screwdrivers, the sizes vary from TX5 to TX40, while in the case of the safety screwdrivers, the size varies from TX8 to TX40.
Precision screwdrivers TX
Precision screwdrivers are the ideal choice if we have to handle very small TX screws. Thanks to their small handle dimensions we will be able to work in a very comfortable way. This type of tools are frequently used in sectors such as electronics or even in the medical sector where small size tools are needed.
Within the range of Bianditz precision TX screwdrivers we can find sizes ranging from TX 4 to TX20.
TX knife screwdriver
The TX knife screwdrivers are a very good option if we need a portable tool, complete in terms of references and to always carry with us. If, for example, you are one of those people who like to ride motorcycles, this is a good option to be able to make small manipulations or adjustments when we are on the road.
Within the Bianditz TX knife wrench catalogue we can find 2 references with sizes ranging from TX6 to TX20 in one case and from TX10 to TX40 in the other.
Safety TX / Inviolable / with central hole
Security Torx wrenches are also known as tamper-proof wrenches. These wrenches are very useful in all those places where a bolt can be manipulated due to street action. For this purpose, security Torx wrenches have a small hole in the center.
In the same way as normal Torx wrenches, security TX keys can be found in different formats of use such as screwdriver tips, T-handle wrenches, razor wrenches or screwdrivers. Before buying a TX screwdriver, make sure if the option you need is the normal TX or the inviolable one.
Torx wrench sizes
The dimensions of Torx wrenches vary greatly depending on the sector in which the tool is to be used. If we want to manipulate electronic or medical devices, we will probably have to resort to very small TX wrenches, whereas if we work in more industrial sectors, we will have to resort to larger TX wrenches. In the case of the automotive industry, for example, it is common to find TX50 wrenches. In the case of more industrial applications or higher torque requirements, we may need an even larger torx wrench.
Torx wrench sets
In the market we can find different sets, briefcases or kits of TX wrenches. The most frequent sets are the angled TX wrenches, but that does not mean that the rest are not used. Once again it will depend on the sector in which these tools are going to be used.
In the set of TX angled wrenches we can find the references TX10, TX15, TX20, TX25, TX27, TX30, TX40, Tx45 and TX50.
How much do Torx wrenches cost
Torx wrench prices can vary based on quality, source, type of wrench, size… A Torx screwdriver tip may be cheaper as it is a smaller tool, while a high quality, large T-handle screwdriver may be somewhat higher in price.
Bianditz Torx wrenches
Bianditz wrenches, screwdrivers and bits stand out for their high quality of first class materials. That is why the useful life of Bianditz products is superior to others, as long as they are used properly.
Frequently asked questions about Torx wrenches
What is the smallest Torx wrench?
The smallest Torx wrenches are intended for medical, watchmaking or electronic applications, among others. For this type of use we will always resort to precision screwdrivers and the smallest sizes we can find are the TX3.
What is the largest Torx wrench?
Large TX wrenches are used in very industrial sectors and where very high tightening torques are required. This type of industrial applications usually have portable electro tools and for this the most used tool is the screwdriver tip. However, in the case of using a larger TX tip, the driving hexagon of the rod must also be of a very considerable size.
Where to buy Torx wrenches?
If you are thinking of buying a set or a professional TX wrench, don’t hesitate to stop by your nearest hardware store and ask for Bianditz TX wrenches.
